Microcredit is a successful banking system for extending tiny loans with no collatorial to the very poor and destitute for their very small businesses. Commercial interests are charged. This unusual idea was pioneered by Economic Professor Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh who founded the Grameen Bank 30 years ago. It is remarkable in that it commercially viable while deservingly promoting self-help enterpreneurship among the very poor, especially the women in the families. The banking idea has since spread extensively in Blangladesh, India and many other poor countries, and even to rich countries including the USA. In a unique recognition, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize was jointly awarded to Yunos and his Grameen Bank. ...
